The Electric Vehicle Charger Installation and Maintenance Certificate program provides a comprehensive understanding of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging systems, from the basics of charger types and specifications to advanced installation and troubleshooting techniques. You will learn industry standards, safety protocols, and the electrical fundamentals needed for efficient and safe EV charger installations, and through hands-on training, develop practical skills in site assessments, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of EV Supply Equipment (EVSE). Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to gain entry-level employment as EVSE technicians and to support the growing demand for sustainable EV infrastructure.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Electric Vehicle Charger Installation and Maintenance Certificate program, the graduate will be able to:
  1. Familiarize themselves with relevant electrical codes, safety standards, and regulations governing EVSE installation, such as the National Electric Code (NEC) and local building codes.
  2. Gain a foundational understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, load calculations, and grounding, to ensure safe and effective installation.
  3. Learn how to test and verify the proper functioning of installed EV chargers, including safety checks and performance evaluations.
  4. Acquire skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting common installation and operational issues, along with routine maintenance practices to ensure reliability.
  5. Understand the different types of EV chargers (e.g., Level 1, Level 2, DC fast chargers) and their specifications, including power ratings and compatibility with various electric vehicles.
  6. Develop practical skills in installing EVSE, including mounting, wiring, and configuring charging units, as well as performing necessary electrical connections.
