Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Service Technician Certificate
Total Program Credits: 13
The Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Service Technician Certificate prepares the students for entry-level employment in the automotive technology field, with specialized training in diagnosis, servicing, and repairing hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) systems. This program is designed to respond to growing demand from regional employers for technicians skilled in advanced powertrain systems, computerized engine controls, and onboard diagnostics (OBD II).
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Service Technician Certificate program, the graduate will be able to:
- Evaluate high voltage hybrid and electric vehicle systems to identify malfunctions using diagnostic reasoning and industry-standard procedures.
- Operate specialized EV diagnostic tools and test equipment (e.g., scan tools, oscilloscopes, milliohm/megohm meters) to collect and interpret data.
- Apply personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols and high-voltage safety procedures per OSHA and ASE safety standards.
- Create accurate, detailed repair orders and service documentation aligned with ASE/NATEF performance task expectations, demonstrating professional-level communication and documentation skills.
